Industrial companies don't lack AI pilots. They lack people who understand both the process and the code — who can walk the plant with an operator in the morning and review an API with a developer in the afternoon. That's the gap I work in.

I'm a (bio)chemical engineer from KU Leuven who took a long detour through software — and found that the detour was the point. Plants, labs and offices run on processes; software is just a process that never gets tired. I like working where the two meet.

I've been a guardian for unaccompanied refugee minors, a secondary school physics teacher, an exchange student in Montréal, and a volunteer in dementia care. I think the best engineers understand people first.
